Eskom: Widespread impact across communities
Eskom stated that the interruption forms part of an urgent maintenance plan aimed at improving the reliability of electricity supply in the affected regions.
According to the power utility, “an urgent planned power outage… will affect customers” in the listed areas during the specified time period.
Maintenance aimed at improving supply
The utility emphasised that the power outage is necessary to carry out critical work on its network.
“The interruption in electricity supply is necessary to perform essential maintenance on the distribution power lines,” Eskom explained.
Such maintenance projects are often conducted to prevent unplanned outages, reduce system failures, and ensure long-term stability of the power grid. While planned outages can be inconvenient, Eskom maintains that they are a necessary part of infrastructure management.
Safety warning and contingency plansEskom has urged residents to exercise caution during the outage period.
“For safety reasons, customers are advised to treat all electrical appliances and installations as live during the outage,” the utility warned.
This precaution aims to prevent accidents that may occur if power is unexpectedly restored.
The power supplier also noted that unforeseen circumstances could affect the maintenance schedule. “Should circumstances beyond Eskom’s control arise, the planned maintenance may not proceed as communicated,” Eskom stated, adding that it “apologises for any inconvenience caused” and thanked customers for their cooperation.
