That was good enough to earn 55 non-member FedEx Cup points to surpass the threshold and gain Special Temporary Membership on the PGA Tour, which means he can receive unlimited sponsor’s exemptions for the rest of the season (as well as make unlimited starts and will be added to the conditional reorder category post-Canadian Open). Not too shabby for the Tennessee native and promising talent, who skipped college and turned pro at age 17.
“I know my route to the PGA Tour is a very uncommon route. It's mainly because of my parents. They've been my biggest supporters. They've sacrificed so much, especially my dad,” Brown said. “I think he's missed about two events in my entire life, and he believed in me whenever I didn't believe in myself.”
Brown has made seven Tour starts this season, recording two top-10s, including a third-place finish at the Puerto Rico Open, and missing just one cut. He entered this week 42.553 points short of the threshold for Special Temporary Membership on the PGA Tour, which can be earned by gaining enough FedEx Cup points to match the 150th player from the previous season's standings.
Brown said he plans to play next week in Raliegh on the Korn Ferry Tour, where he is ranked No. 13 on the season-long money list. The top 20 at the end of the season earn full-exempt status on the PGA Tour in 2027. Brown will need to finish in the top 100 on the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup season-long points race to earn a card for next season in the big leagues. So, he will have some decisions to make in terms of where and when to chase future status. Brown commended the Korn Ferry Tour, which he earned status this season through a special temporary membership last year.
“What it's done for me is it's provided me a pathway to the PGA Tour,” he said. “The cool thing that I think it's done is it's taught me to go low. I can't thank the Korn Ferry Tour enough for teaching me those valuable lessons because everybody out on the PGA Tour, they can go low. Without the Korn Ferry Tour, I would not have had that strength.”
